The Peterborough Concert Band is proud to present its major fall concert Legends & Lore. The program features a blend of classical and contemporary works that explore the musical interpretations and themes of folk tales and myths from Canada and around the world. Among the varied and fascinating pieces are “The Witch and the Saint”, which tells the story of twin girls whose fate is determined by their differing upbringings and “The Saint and the City”,that brings a legend of a dragon and a city in the Netherlands to life and captivates from the first note to the last. Medleys of Canadian folk lore are presented in the beautiful “Canadian Folk Trilogy” and “Three Canadian Folk Miniatures”. Also, not to be missed is the powerful Krakatoa “The Mountain of Fire”, which treats the audience to thunderous blasts followed by a haunting slow section. The music then becomes frantic, eventually leading to the famed Krakatoa explosions of 1883. This exciting concert also features the world premiere of two pieces composed for the Peterborough Concert Band by the winners of our Emerging Composers Contest 2026. Nishant Amatya (British Columbia) and Christopher Phillis (Ontario) have created powerful, yet beautiful pieces that are sure to entertain!
